Alavés is second on a Sunday of ties above

MADRID, 19 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Deportivo Alavés placed second in the table this Sunday by beating Ibiza (4-2) on matchday 28 of LaLiga SmartBank, taking advantage of Levante’s tie on their visit to Ponferradina (1-1).

The Basque team had to sweat against the bottom team in Mendizorroza, despite going 3-0 with a hat-trick from Luis Rioja in 36 minutes. Between the end of the first half and the start of the second, Diop and Ekain changed the script (3-2) and Alavés ended up suffering.

With the tension at its maximum, Grillo and Mauro each saw red cards in the Balearic Islands and, with the superiority, the local team signed the 4-2. Alavés, in their fifth victory in a row, is in the direct promotion zone with 52 points, compared to Levante’s 51.

The ‘granota’ team added their 19th game without losing in the League in a row, but lost the option of assaulting the lead and also lost second place. The visitors even had to take the tie for good, since Ponferradina was better and forgave the best chances trying to get out of the break.

Meanwhile, in the fight for the top, Granada (48) did not take advantage to get closer to the first two places with a draw (1-1) against Huesca. The match was encouraged before the break, with goals from Joaquín and Neva, but in the second there was not the same aim.

In addition, Albacete (46) saw his foot held when he seemed to take off and consolidate the ‘Top 6’ against Burgos (44), because of Matos’s discount goal to tie Olaetxea’s shortly before for the manchegos. A rush for El Plantío, who continues to believe in the dream of ascending.
