Alavés grabs First and Getafe postpones salvation

MADRID, 11 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Deportivo Alavés achieved three golden points to cling to the Santander League after beating Espanyol (2-1) in a match played in Mendizorroza, while Getafe drew with Osasuna (1-1) away from home and continues to delay their mathematical permanence, in matches on matchday 36 of the championship.

In Vitoria, Julio Velázquez’s team had no other options. If the babazorros did not win they were officially in the Second Division. However, Alavés gave his chest and did not fail against his team. At 7 minutes he was already winning with a goal from Miguel de la Fuente, the personal bet of the coach from Alava, who debuted as a scorer in the First Division.

The ex of Pucela and Leganés was the smartest in the class by anticipating a parakeet defender to shoot Diego López. The 1-0 spurred a Espanyol that equalized just seven minutes later. On this occasion it was the ‘forgiven’ Raúl de Tomás who did not miss from 11 meters in a shot with great confidence.

Those at home did not lose their nerve and knew how to find their moment to keep faith in their fight for permanence. The expulsion of Yangel Herrera, due to a double warning, helped the Vitorians who took the lead 12 minutes later with a free kick taken by Jason Remeseiro that Gonzalo Escalante deflected.

The marker did not move and that there were occasions for it. Among them a clear penalty on Martín Aguirregabiria that was not called due to Joselu’s previous offside. The referee required the help of the VAR to be able to decide. The parakeets also tried their luck but without the impetus of the locals, who will continue to live one more day.

For its part, Getafe does not finish signing the permanence after drawing (1-1) with Atlético Osasuna, but it is very close. The azulones have a five-point margin over relegation and there are six left to play after a Wednesday where they made the cut during their visit to the new Sadar.

The rojillos scored first with an impeccable header from Oier Sanjurjo, who just this week announced that he will not continue in Pamplona next season, but Lucas Torró -an own goal- equalized the team from Madrid after 20 minutes.

A point that Quique Sánchez Flores’s pupils took for granted, especially after Mitrovic was sent off in the final minutes. With salvation practically in their hands, Getafe could close it depending on the rest of the results, without even needing to score. The Navarrese will continue in ninth place.
