Aitor Sanz: “It was difficult to think that I could play so many games”

Aitor Sanz's sports career took a radical turn in just one year. Last July was a test for him to know how he would respond after spending the 18-19 season completely blank due to an injury to the Achilles tendon. And it was a complete success: He played 38 league games and two in the Copa del Rey, accumulating 3,161 minutes on his legs.

“Before playing those first friendlies of the preseason I already noticed that things were responding well, because I did not feel any pain in the area,” said the captain. “Nothing has been the result of chance and yes to the very hard work behind it, thanks to the medical services that have treated me, to the physical trainers who were on top of me to carry out a good recovery, and then maintain my physical tone, ”he added to the official media.

Since his arrival seven years ago he has become a fixture in the lineups, although he admitted that from the start “It was difficult to think that he could play so many games. I knew that leaving a mark on such an entity was very difficult, but little by little I am reaching some important figures of games played, something that for me supposes an enormous pride. I hope to play many more because it is a club and a place where I am happy. “

Renewed for one more season, the midfielder said he would like to play for a longer time. “I have always said that football is my life, my passion, and on top of that I do it where I want to be and where I feel very happy, so I will do my part so that this illusion that I feel can be transferred to my colleagues, day by day. ”

The Madrilenian considered that the campaign has been very peculiar. “I was able to return to the field of play, I felt physically good and I did not resent the injury and for that part very happy, but it is true that the season was somewhat strange in the beginning, since we had a bad streak with Aritz López Garai , but With the arrival of Rubén Baraja the team knew how to get back on the flight. ”

And just when things were better going, the pandemic break came, but “The team knew how to compete, we returned very well after the confinement and we stayed at the gates. I really think it's to be proud of. Particularly I was able to do what I like the most, without pain, and very happy about it ”, he insisted.
