Ainhoa Tirapu’s presidential candidacy is withdrawn

‘United for football’ has officially announced this Saturday that it is withdrawing from the electoral race for the presidency of the Professional League of Women’s Football after failing to obtain sufficient guarantees. The candidacy led by Ainhoa Tirapu and Dolores Martelli has not obtained the necessary support from at least four clubs to continue opting for the direction of women’s football.

On March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day, Ainhoa and Dolores were the first to announce their intention to run for the presidency of women’s professional football.

This Saturday, ́United for football ́ is withdrawing on the understanding that the clubs have chosen to continue along the same path traveled so far to begin their professional career.

“Football taught me both to win and to lose and above all it taught me to learn from defeats. An exciting path in which we have put everything on our part is coming to an end, but the result has not been what we expected. I want to thank Dolores for giving me courage and confidence, and to all the people who were excited about this project. I continue to be clear that the world is for the brave and we have been”, declared Ainhoa.

As we already told last night in Mundo Deportivo, it will be on Monday when the Electoral Commission announces the results of these endorsements where Beatriz Álvarez starts as the great favorite given that she could have presented around ten of the 16 clubs in the category. And, as we mentioned yesterday, the other alternative could be María Tato, current member of the international department of the RFEF and who has been responsible for women’s football in the federative establishment led by Luis Rubiales until just a few months ago. Everything indicates that the fourth candidacy headed by María Teixidor and Reyes Bellver would also have been left out of the electoral race. On Monday we will leave doubts.
