Ager Solabarrieta revalidates his world gold in the 10 m prone rifle for people with visual disabilities

MADRID, 23 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish shooter Ager Solabarrieta revalidated this Friday his title of world champion in the ten-meter shotgun modality
for people with visual disabilities during the Paralympic Shooting World Championships that are being held in Lima.

As reported by ONCE in a press release, the Biscayan began the final in the top positions, led at all times by the Croatian Fran Skracic until halfway through the competition and with Solabarrieta, accompanied by his guide and wife Maite Badiola, located in the fourth position after 14 shots.

However, the Basque did not lose his calm and was climbing positions until with six shots remaining he was in first position. While his rivals were being eliminated, Solabarrieta grew with six final shots that exceeded ten points each, to finish with 243.1 points and the reissue of the gold that was won in the United Arab Emirates in November 2022.

The Croatian Fran Skracic and the Polish Katarzyna Orzechowska won the silver and bronze medals respectively, while the other Spanish participant, the Malaga-born Sonia Rivero, who was
more to less until finishing in a positive fifth place.

So that people with visual disabilities can practice this sport, a compressed air rifle equipped with a special telescopic sight is used, which contains or is connected to an electronic circuit, which transforms light into sound. Depending on the
intensity of light on the target will emit a tone of greater or lesser intensity and the telescopic sight collects the reflection of light from the target so that the shooter can aim.

On the other hand, Fernando Michelena, from the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Physical Disabilities, finished sixteenth in the R4 – 10 meter rifle modality, where he could not access the final after achieving 629.2 points in the qualification phase.
