Adriana Cerezo: “In Tokyo the only ones who believed I was going to win were my parents, my coach and me”

MADRID, 7 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish taekwondo player Adriana Cerezo, current Olympic runner-up in -49 kilos, confesses that at the Tokyo Olympics, the only people who “believed” she could win a medal were her parents, her coach and herself, and she does not hide that all of them The expectations and support he receives from people for Paris 2024 “is the most beautiful thing there is.”

“Having the pressure to get a good result is the most beautiful thing. In Tokyo, the only one who believed I was going to win were my parents, my coach and me. Now there are more people who think about it and who believe and trust in me I think it is the most beautiful thing there is,” said Adriana Cerezo in an interview with Europa Press after the recognition ceremony held at the COE for the medalists in the European Games held in Krakow (Poland), where she was proclaimed champion.

And the year 2023 is being brilliant for the Spanish. Added to her gold in this event is the bronze at the Baku World Cup and already having a ticket for the next Olympic event. Despite this, Alcalaina is cautious and maintains that she does not like to make evaluations “in the middle of the year”, and she prefers to wait until the end of the season to do them. “Right now, each championship is about getting into rhythm for something more important and for the great moment that these Games are going to be. For now, I am very happy because we are performing well, we are training very well,” she added.

And Cerezo hopes that he has not yet reached his best taekwondo. “I think we are always going to aim for the highest and we are going to want more. We still have a lot of things to improve, and that’s the beauty. Just because things are coming out and there are good results doesn’t mean that there isn’t still a lot of room for improvement. Therefore, we have to continue working until we reach that maximum,” he explained in this regard.

Her results in 2023 mean that the current Olympic runner-up has already gotten her ticket to Paris, something that could make her relax. However, the Spanish woman is blunt regarding that issue. “I don’t like losing, neither me nor any athlete. I don’t like losing even at cards, so we are always going to go for the maximum. That’s why we go to big events in which no one is going to want to lose, in those in which everyone is going to want to give their one hundred percent, everyone is going to want to win and I am obviously not going to be any less,” he warned.

“I go for everything, but I approach it from the point of view that I don’t have to wait to win a round and for someone else to lose. I simply have to worry about myself, about what I do, about getting the best result.” possible and give the most optimal performance. Everything that comes now is a learning process,” he added about this situation.

Adriana Cerezo is among the big favorites in every competition she competes in, but that does not put pressure on her because she is clear that “the problem” will be the day that when she goes to any competition people think she is going to “lose.” “There it will be more complicated, but now I have a lot of confidence in myself, in the work we are doing, in the team I have and that people see it from the outside what gives me a boost,” she said.

Finally, he referred to the support he receives from the fans, a support that he claims to feel and that is “very cool.” “I like that people know taekwondo, and much more, that it is because of you. That they have that enthusiasm and are waiting for the Games to come to see you, to encourage you and to support you. That shows,” she said.
