Adidas brings Haaland closer

Erling Haaland has chosen: Adidas will be his personally sponsored brand for years to come. A decision that could already be seen coming, especially after the Norwegian striker went out at the beginning of the month to train with Borussia Dortmund wearing boots from the German brand, without hiding the features of the boots at all (it is a common practice of footballers when they do not have a contract with any brand to paint the boots black so that they are not distinguished). This Thursday, March 31, the definitive confirmation arrived on Haaland’s social networks, posing with a sweatshirt from the German brand and with the following message: “Only me”.

An important decision that has taken the Borussia striker a while, one of the most sought-after players in the football market at the moment. I had offers from Nike (his previous brand, which paid him a million a year and whose offer would have gone up a lot to enter the fight), Puma (he was reported to have put eight million a year on the table) and Adidas. The German press reported that Haaland was asking for 50 million for five years of sponsorship, although It has not transpired if Adidas has reached that amount or if it has been closed for a lower cost.

And Real Madrid, one of Haaland’s suitors in the next transfer market, celebrates the Norwegian’s decision. Adidas is the brand that has dressed the white team since the summer of 1998 (it has done so before, 1980 and 1986) and the relationship between the club and the German firm is very strong, more so since they renewed their agreement in 2019 and until 2028, with a fixed per season for Madrid of more than 100 million euros.

Haaland, vital para adidas

In this context, Adidas’s wish now would be for Real Madrid to manage to sign Haaland next summer to bring together its main star in football for the next decade (it also has Messi, but the Argentine is already facing the final stage of his career). Mbappé is Nike territory, as is Vinicius; Benzema is from Adidas, but like Messi, he is in the final stage of his professional career.. The German firm needs one of the players with the most drive in the world in a forward like Madrid’s.

At the same time, this decision adds a certain difficulty for Barcelona to compete for the signing, since the culé club has had a partnership for many years with the American Nike. Although from the Barça environment it has slipped that the agreement with Spotify, a Swedish company and, therefore, Scandinavian, can also be a boost in the fight for Haaland. But Madrid has a much stronger economy and now, in addition, with Adidas on his side putting pressure on him.
