Actor Donald Sutherland, President Snow from ‘The Hunger Games’, dies at 88

The film industry is in mourning. Canadian actor Donald Sutherland, died this Thursday at the age of 88. The causes of his death are still unknown. The brilliant performer leaves a widow, Francine Racette, and five children from three different marriages. Precisely the best known of the five, Kiefer, who followed in the professional footsteps of his father, has been in charge of breaking the sad news through social networks.

“It is with great sadness that I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away. Personally, I think he is one of the most important actors in the history of cinema. He never doubted a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and he did it what he loved, and you can never ask for more than that. A life well lived,” he wrote on social networks.

One of the most prominent faces of New Hollywood in the 1970s, Sutherland was long considered one of the greatest actors, despite never having been nominated for an Oscar. However, some of the filmographies he worked for did. However, in 2017 he received an honorary Oscar for the achievements of his more than 60 years of professional career, just as he was awarded the Donostia Prize at the San Sebastián Festival in 2019. In his speech he made it clear that retirement was not an option. in his plans: “I don’t have money to live on income, I feed many mouths. I can’t retire because my life is work. This is a passion. The characters I have played have given me enjoyment and freedom to live life that I would never have dared to live.”

He was nominated nine times for the Golden Globes, of which he won two of them as Best Supporting Actor for fiction. He worked with authors such as Nicolas Roeg in Don’t Look Now and Federico Fellini in Fellini’s Casanova and appeared in more popular films such as Mash, The Hunger Games o Threat in the shadows.
