Abramovich, with offers to sell Chelsea

Chelsea may change hands after its owner, Roman Abramovich, handed over his management to the club’s Charitable Foundation on Sunday after the war in Ukraine.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the Russian tycoon will receive at least three offers this week from people who are interested in buying Chelsea and who are optimistic that they will be considered by Abramovich himself.

Since Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003, the west London outfit have won two Champions Leagues, five Premier League and FA Cups, two Europa Leagues and three League Cups.

Abramovich, more likely to sell

Chelsea have insisted the club is not for sale, but there is a sense that Abramovich’s stance is softening, especially as the threat of sanctions looms over the Blues’ owner following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. .

Abramovich is one of the richest people in Russia and is considered to be close to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who declared war on Ukraine last week.

On Tuesday Labor MP Chris Bryant said Abramovich is “terrified of sanctions” and is preparing to sell his Kensington mansion as a result.

Abramovich has previously turned down offers of more than £2bn, but the Telegraph reports that potential buyers are keen to charge back after recent developments.
