Abramovich leaves Chelsea amid Russia-Ukraine war

Roman Abramovich, owner of Chelsea, has left the English club this Saturday after 19 years at the helm. In this way, the 55-year-old Russian tycoon steps aside in the midst of the war between Russia and Ukraine.

The announcement comes from the London club, which has communicated that Abramovich remains “committed to these values. That is why today I delegate the administration and care of Chelsea FC to the charitable foundation of Chelsea”, declared the Russian tycoon. A drastic decision unleashed in the last days after the war with the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“During my almost 20 years as owner of Chelsea FC, I have always seen my role as someone who is a stewards of the club, whose job it is to ensure that we are as successful as possible today and in the future, while also playing a positive role in our communities. I have always made decisions with the best interest of the club in mind,” reads the club’s statement.

Abramovich was even pointed out by the British government as one of the possible punished with the sanctions planned for Russia. For now, the well-known Russian tycoon is separating from the club, without giving more information than this brief note on the team’s website.
