A very worthy Sevilla shows ‘green shoots’ in Dortmund

A very worthy Sevilla shows ‘green shoots’ in Dortmund

MADRID, 11 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Sevilla tied (1-1) this Tuesday on their visit to Germany against Borussia Dortmund and, although they practically said goodbye to the Champions League, they showed a very different image than the one they had given just seven days ago against the same team, managing to dominate one of the most dangerous teams in all of Europe in attack in large phases of the match.

Jorge Sampaoli’s men started better than their rival, to whom they were better during almost the entire first half, and after 18 minutes they were rewarded with a goal from Tanguy Nianzou, who headed a lateral free kick masterfully posted by Rakitic and put Sevilla ahead.

However, Borussia Dortmund achieved the tie, which was now final, in a play where fortune was aligned on the German side, with a shot by Jude Bellingham that hit Nianzou to change Bono’s trajectory in the mouth of the goal at 35 minutes.

In just one week, Sevilla went from being overwhelmed at home by 1-4 against the Germans, giving the image of a dead team, to being superior for much of the game, achieving a draw away from home and beginning to sketch a timid smile, which It is not shortly after the complicated start to the preseason that the Andalusians have had.

As has been the trend of the season, Sevilla began the match playing face to face with their rival, although this time they did not lose their performance afterwards. Ivan Rakitic, in addition to assisting Nianzou, had two shots coming from the second row that didn’t go far from Kobel’s goal.

Another piece of good news for Sampaoli’s men was Marcao, who was finally able to debut in the Champions League and left a good example of his defensive ability, especially keeping his position, despite the fact that he was facing an attack that left no room for error. He had to ask for the change in injury time, although he seemed more tired from not being used to the level of demand than from injury.

SAMPAOLI REACTS TO THE CHANGES

Borussia Dortmund tried to change the game at halftime, after not feeling comfortable at any time in the first half, for which they brought on Raphael Guerreiro. Edin Terzic’s plan worked in the first place, but bottling Sevilla did not help him get any chance of danger.

Jorge Sampaoli quickly detected the change in his rival’s mentality and moved the bench to regain control of the game, with a double substitution in which he brought in Isco and Adnan Januzaj and which once again gave Sevilla a boost.

The two entries activated Jesús Navas a lot, who in the second half became the owner of the right wing and was a danger for the Germans. Through the lateral crosses, the clearest chances of the game for Sevilla came, such as a shot by Januzaj at the near post that went well above despite the fact that the occasion seemed clear for the Belgian.

Erik Lamela was the one who had the clearest chance of the entire second half, in a ball hanging into the area where the Argentine arrived very forced, but managed to get two touches to control and hit, but from a position very close to Kobel, who had left with everything and managed to save his team.

In the final minutes, Borussia Dortmund tried to reinvigorate the game by bringing in Reyna and Thorgan Hazard, but Sevilla managed to barricade themselves around their goal and did not concede any more, a situation that seemed utopian just seven days ago.

Now, the sevillista team could not win again, but not losing and the image given in these last two games gives it a different and hopeful air for the following games, although in Europe it is only one point away from staying out of the round of 16 and Everything indicates that a Europa League position will have to be played against Copenhagen.
