BARCELONA, 18 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The 48th Palamós Christmas Race, an international sailing regatta that takes place in the waters of the bay of Palamós (Girona) from December 19 to 22, is preparing for a new edition in which a total of 239 crews from 16 countries with 382 sailors will participate. and 60 coaches, distributed in 8 categories.
Considered the first regatta of the following year for World Sailing and EUROSAF, this new edition of the Palamós Christmas Race will inaugurate the 29er Eurocup 202 circuit and will feature the best Optimist regatta in the world in the International Palamós Optimist Trophy.
The regatta, for years, has combined some Olympic classes, in this edition they will be the ILCA 6 Women’s and Men’s, ILCA 4 Men’s and Women’s, the 420 Men’s/Mixed and 420 Women’s.
The great novelty in this year’s edition is that all the activity on land will be concentrated in the Platja Gran de Palamós, as is already the case with the Palamós Optimist Trophy, where there is a large natural space with departures from the same beach and where the Contact between the participants and the public and fans is more direct, thus bringing the competition closer to the population.
Anna Cuxart is the new director of the regatta and explains that a very important international participation will continue, which demonstrates the interest of the Palamós Christmas Race outside of Spanish borders.
The 48th edition of the Christmas Race will have two regatta fields, on the one hand the individual classes ILCA 6 and ILCA 4 and on the other the double classes with the 420 and 29er.
The Palamós Christmas Race is organized by the Club Nàutic Costa Brava – Vela Palamós, with the support of the Spanish and Catalan Sailing Federations, as well as the institutional support of the Generalitat of Catalonia, the Provincial Council of Girona and the Palamós City Council.
