A sustainable ‘salad bowl’ pays tribute to the Davis Cup

A sculpture of the ‘salad bowl’ made with recycled material will pay tribute to the Davis Cup for being a benchmark tournament in sustainability, since it has reduced its environmental impact together with ‘Ecovidrio’, responsible for the environmental consulting of the tournament.

The replica of the trophy awarded by the Davis Cup, Three meters high, it has been made with the glass recycled by the people of Madrid in the containers set up in eleven municipalities of the capital and has been installed this morning in the Madrid Arena venue, place where the team competition takes place, although once it is finished it will be permanently installed in the Francisco Fernández Ochoa Municipal Center (Carabanchel, Madrid).

The presentation of the sculpture was attended by Fernando Verdasco, director of the tournament; Borja Martiarena, from Ecovidrio; and Víctor Sarabia, general director of cleaning services of the Madrid City Council.

“With this sculpture, we perpetuate the commitment of Madrid and the Davis Cup with sustainability, prioritizing our joint objective that this type of sporting events generate the minimum possible environmental footprint”, declared Martiarena.

This initiative is framed within the ‘Make it Green’ plan, which has more initiatives related to the Davis Cup, such as the implementation of a line of free electric buses that go from Principe Pío to the competition venue, the recycling of racket strings or the fight against the waste of food, among others.
