A recycled glass ‘Salad Bowl’ sculpture recalls the more sustainable Davis Cup

MADRID, 3 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

A 3-meter sculpture replica of the ‘Salad Bowl’ made with recycled glass from Madrid has been installed this Friday at the Madrid Arena to commemorate the Davis Cup tennis Finals, which will be held until December 5 at the venue. municipal of the capital of Spain.

This sculpture wants to pay tribute as a benchmark in sustainability to Davis, a competition promoted by the ‘Make It Green’ plan that Ecovidrio has specifically developed as responsible for the environmental consulting of the tournament.

For the manufacture of this ‘Salad Bowl’, the waste from glass containers that have been collected in the containers that Ecovidrio has deployed in 11 municipalities of the Community of Madrid have been used for the exchange of tickets for the matches for glass containers.

Once the tournament is over, the sculpture will be permanently installed in the Francisco Fernández Ochoa Municipal Sports Center in the Madrid district of Carabanchel.

The opening ceremony was attended by Víctor Sarabia, general director of Cleaning and Waste Services of the Madrid City Council; Fernando Verdasco, tournament director; and Borja Martiarena, Marketing Director of Ecovidrio.

“With this sculpture, we perpetuate the commitment of Madrid and the Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals with sustainability, prioritizing our joint objective that these types of sporting events generate the minimum possible environmental footprint. Our Make It Green plan has turned this tournament into an example of good practices that are helping to reduce negative impacts and maximize positive ones in areas such as the environment, the economy and society “, commented Borja Martiarena.

This initiative is part of the Make It Green plan, developed by Ecovidrio together with the sustainability consultancy Anthesis Lavola, to promote the design and development of sustainability strategies in sporting events.

The action plan has been developed thanks to the collaboration of the Community of Madrid and the Madrid City Council and focuses on 8 key objectives that translate into sustainability measures adapted for the occasion that Kosmos Tennis is already implementing in the development of the competition.

These include the launch of a free electric bus line that takes fans from the Glorieta de San Vicente in Príncipe Pío to the Madrid Arena, recycling the strings of the rackets to turn them into T-shirts, a new life for the tournament balls, restoration of km 0, reduction of paper in tickets and tickets, carbon footprint compensation in operations, use of 100% recycled paper in its official magazine, promotion of diversity and equality opportunities, the implementation of the triple R in catering, awareness messages to attendees, as well as the fight against food waste through an adjusted calculation of the same, among others.
