The terrible blow happened in the middle of the first half of NMSU’s 79–73 overtime win over Liberty.
Carpenter was given a flagrant foul two and was thrown out of the game. This is the inaugural year with the team after transferring to Mississippi Valley State. ESPN says Robinson did not come back.
“First, that’s not how things will be done at the University of New Mexico.” I believe everyone knows who I am.
“I think that after 31 years of working as a coach and 14 as an assistant coach, everyone knows what kind of person I am,” Hooten said.

Hooten was shocked by what Carpenter did and called him “a really good kid.” But he said, “There’s just no room, not even for that in the game itself, at all.”
Hooten said that he thinks Carpenter will be suspended by Conference USA for at least the next game, which is this Saturday against Jacksonville State for the Aggies. If officials watch the video again, they may suspend Carpenter for longer.
