The conflict between Ukraine and Russia continues to leave victims, also related to the world of sport. On this occasion it was Vladimir Rogovskiy, a former Shakhtar Donetsk player, who lost his life at the age of 68 during the Russian siege of the cities of Kherson and Kharkov. Through social networks, the Ukrainian team has reported the death of their former footballer, and has wanted to offer “its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Vladimir Rogovskiy. We appreciate his memory”.
Born in 1954, the Donetsk team has made it known that “The striker played for Shakhtar from 1975 to 1982, played 224 games and scored 25 goals. With the team, he was a two-time silver medalist at the USSR Championship (1975, 1979) and lifted the USSR Cup (1980). Vladimir scored Shakhtar’s first goal in European competition.” Vladimir Rogovskiy thus joins Vitalii Sapylo, who belonged to Karpaty Lviv’s youth team, and Dmytro ‘Dima’ Martynenko, who played for FC Gostomel, players who, as reported FIFProdied during the beginning of the Russian invasion.
