58 years of Real Madrid's hand to Barça at the Camp Nou

January 27 could be one more day on the calendar of any Madridista, but the oldest ones know that it is a milestone in that historic rivalry with Barça for decades. On January 27, 1963 (today it is 58 years old), Miguel Muñoz's team literally swept the Catalans at the Camp Nou, endorsing them with a little hand that is still remembered in Barcelona. A 1-5 that made it clear that the elimination of the European Cup suffered by the whites on the same stage two seasons earlier was due to the famous and calamitous refereeing by Mister Leafe, canceling four legal goals for Madrid and preventing him from conquering that year (1961) his sixth consecutive European Cup.

Let's go back to January 27, 1963. Madrid had Barça ten points behind in the League and a victory meant leaving their great rival out of the fight for the League Championship. The Classic showed a soulless aspect in the stands, given that the poor performance of the Catalans and the cold of January meant that there was hardly half an entry into the Camp Nou. The one that got into the heat quickly was Madrid, with a goal from Puskas, from a penalty, in the 23rd minute. Then Cayetano Ré tied and it seemed that Barça could respond to a Madrid that was a locomotive. The Paraguayan goal was a mirage. Puskas, on his big night, responded immediately with a right hand. And in the second half came the white gale with another three goals from Di Stéfano, Puskas and Gento. A little hand (1-5) who covered all the covers of sports and general information newspapers the next day. It was the vindication of a Madrid that attended the last exhibitions of Di Stéfano (he would leave the club a year later), but that still enjoyed the splendor of Puskas and Gento. It goes without saying that this League ended up being won by Madrid, with 49 points, outstripping Atlético de Madrid by no less than 12. Barça was sixth…. 18 points behind whites! And that those leagues the triumphs only gave two points …
