15 years of the goal of Puerta that changed the history of Sevilla

The Seville celebrates this April 27 a very special anniversary. It is not the one of any of the ten titles he has won in this 21st century, but in some way it is connected with it, since it was the starting gun. On a Fair Thursday in Seville, Antonio Puerta, a footballer who years later would stain Andalusian and national football with tears with his disappearance after fainting in a Sevilla-Getafe match, opened the path to glory for the Nervionense team with a wonderful left-footed shot to the Schalke 04 that put those then coached by Juande Ramos in their first European final.

In the extension of that round of the semi-finals of the Europa League (still at that time the UEFA Cup) that goal in the goal of Gol Norte by Sánchez Pizjuán gave Sevilla the ticket for the final in Eindhoven in 2016, the first pica of that Seville that made history. In Holland, Juande's men beat English Middlesbrough (4-0) with a dream team: Palop, Daniel Alves, Puerta, Maresca, Kanoute, Saviola, Luis Fabiano… and Jesús Navas. The palace was the one who gave him the pass to Puerta on that magical night against Schalke 04 and even today, 15 years later, the band continues to run around as a starter in Sevilla that today is willing to fight for the League with Lopetegui.

Del Nido even prepared a fireworks display

That night of April 27, 2006, Fair Thursday, madness broke out in the Sánchez-Pizjuán, where Del Nido had even prepared a fireworks display, and throughout the early morning in the real de la Feria. The day before Salvador Cortes had cut four ears in the Maestranza, another historical event that had not occurred for at least 40 years. From Nervión, the Sevilla fans went out fighting at the streetlights through the streets on the way to the Fair.

Antonio Puerta, author of a historic goal

That team could no longer be stopped by anyone. He won five titles in 15 months. The UEFA in Eindhoven, the European Super Cup against Barcelona, the Copa del Rey against Getafe, another UEFA in Glasgow against Espanyol de Valverde and the Spanish Super Cup beating Real Madrid at the Bernabéu, apart from fighting as now for the League until almost the last day, until Iturralde González crossed his path in Son Moix when he did not whistle a clear penalty from Héctor to Luis Fabiano that over the years both the referee and the defender recognized that it was worth the maximum penalty.
