10 facts about the Abu Dhabi GP

MADRID, 23 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Formula 1 celebrates this weekend the last Grand Prix of the season at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, a race in which Max Verstappen (Red Bull) can surpass Sebastian Vettel as the third driver with the most victories in the history of Formula 1, as well as Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) equal his best podium season since 2013. These are 10 facts about the 2023 Abu Dhabi GP:

1. In the 2023 season there have only been 3 different winners (Max Verstappen, ‘Checo’ Pérez and Carlos Sainz), if a different driver fails to achieve it, the historical record of fewer winners in the same year would be equaled.

2. The last 8 winners of the Abu Dhabi GP have started the race from pole.

3. Max Verstappen can surpass Sebastian Vettel in number of victories and become the third driver in history with the most victories in F-1 with 54.

4. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) is the driver who has achieved the most victories in the Abu Dhabi GP with 5 wins, followed by Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel, both with 3.

5. If Red Bull achieves victory in Abu Dhabi, it will become the team with the highest winning percentage in a season (95.5%), surpassing McLaren in 1988 (93.8%).

6. If Carlos Sainz achieves 1st or 2nd position, the Madrid native will score his 1,000th point in Formula 1, and would become the 15th driver in history to achieve this.

7. Carlos Sainz has finished in the ‘top 4’ in the last two races held in Abu Dhabi, achieving 3rd position in 2021 and 4th in 2022.

8. If Fernando Alonso takes the podium this weekend, he will score ninth this season, his highest mark in a year since 2013, when he achieved nine with Ferrari.

9. If he manages to get on the podium but not win, Lando Norris (McLaren) will become the driver who has achieved the most podiums in Formula 1 without achieving a single victory with 14, surpassing Nick Heinfield’s 13.

10. At the Las Vegas GP, Alonso became the first driver in the history of Formula 1 to reach 300 races.
