1.8 million World Cup tickets sold

The organizers have sold 1.8 million tickets for the world Cup of this year in Qatarworld soccer’s governing body said on Wednesday FIFA before the next round of ticket sales, which starts on July 5.

A special category of tickets is available only to residents of the host nation, Qatar, and fans from the Persian Gulf state have bought the most, FIFA says.

Apart from Qatar, the main countries where fans shopped are Canada, England, France, Germany, India, Saudi Arabia, Spain, the United Arab Emirates and the United States, FIFA added in a press release.

FIFA expects to offer a total of 3 million match tickets during the 28-day tournament, which kicks off on November 21. Qualifications for the World Cup have now concluded and the 32 places available for the tournament are assured.

The next round of ticket sales will remain open until August 16 and tickets will be confirmed upon payment, on a first-come, first-served basis.
