Jose Fajardo gave victory to Panama (1-2) this Sunday before Dominica in a thrilling finale to the match corresponding to the second day of the qualifying rounds of the Qatar World Cup 2022.
Fajardo's goal, culminating a team play in the 85th minute, saved all three points for Panama, four minutes after Dominica had surprisingly scored the tying goal, in a great shot by Audel Laville.
The first goal for Panama's account was scored by Thomas on his own goal in the first half, after a good play by Edgar Bárcenas.
Panama dominated the entire match, but as in their debut against Barbados, they lacked forcefulness to transform their chances into goals.
The team of the Spanish-Danish Thomas Christiansen started the game with many variations with respect to its debut in the qualifying rounds, but the changes did not serve to improve the game of the Panamanian team.
The first goal came just before half an hour, in a cross shot by Bárcenas that ended up in the nets after bouncing off the leg of the Dominican defender Briel Thomas.
At the start of the second half, the Panamanian team had their best minutes, won in dynamics and depth, managing to cause scoring opportunities with greater clarity than at the start of the game.
José Fajardo had the best chances to extend the score, first with a shot to the post and later, in a solo heads-up against the goalkeeper, but culminated with a deflected shot.
César Yanis was very close to making a shot through the squad after a corner kick, but the acrobatic jump of the Prince goal prevented the goal.
Despite Panamanian dominance, on one of the few occasions that Dominica approached the Panamanian area, the tying goal emerged, in the 81st minute.
After stealing the ball from the Panamanian rear, after a poor kick by the goalkeeper, Laville fired from outside the area to score a goal after touching the goal post of Orlando Mosquera.
The Panamanian reaction was immediate and four minutes later Christiansen's team scored the winning goal, the work of Fajardo.
With this victory, Panama is second in Group D with 6 points, the same as the Dominican Republic, while Barbados, Dominica and Anguilla are tied at zero.
