The relations between the Bourbon clan and Letizia, on the media radar

The four kings together is the most sought-after photo (because it is rare): Felipe VI and Queen Letizia with Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia in the same setting. This image will be produced at the funeral of Juan Gómez-Acebo, which will be held this Sunday, September 8, in the military cathedral of Madrid, where the last farewell was also said to his brother Fernando, who died last April. In addition to Queen Letizia’s return to the capital, the funeral also means her reunion with her sisters-in-law, Elena and Cristina. A meeting of the Bourbon clan that will serve to analyze gestures and looks after the posing for the wedding of Victoria López-Quesada with the absence of the consort.

The tragedy of the Gómez-Acebo family, who lost two brothers in five months, has brought the Borbóns together again. Juan, who died in Palma on August 12, was cremated the following day in the Sóller funeral home in Mallorca, in the strictest privacy. Initially, it was planned that the mortal remains of the son of the Infanta Pilar would be transferred to the capital where he would be buried in the family pantheon in the San Isidro cemetery in the capital. August 15 was considered as the date. However, the plans were postponed until September 8 so that the family could accompany the Gómez-Acebo family in this final farewell. One of those absent was Don Felipe, who at that time was on an official trip to Santo Domingo where he attended the inauguration of Dominican President Luis Abinader.

This Sunday we will see the King and Queen, Felipe VI and Letizia, together. We have not seen them together since last August 22nd with that outing in Madrid at the Plaza de Oriente, in the Palacio area, at a dinner for two at the La Lonja del Mar restaurant.

Her appearance at the farewell to Juan Gómez-Acebo will take place a week after the wedding of the monarch’s goddaughter, Victoria, with Enrique Moreno de la Cova. A wedding that left us with two key images: the arrival by car of Don Felipe with his sister Cristina, completely rehabilitated in the public eye (and not only in the privacy of the family); and the conspicuous absence of Letizia in the general photo shoot of the Bourbons with the bride and groom.
