LaLiga insists on “getting to the end” with the complaint against PSG: “We do not defend postures”

MADRID, 25 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The general director of LaLiga, Óscar Mayo, defended this Wednesday that they will go “until the end” with the complaint against PSG before UEFA for possible breach of the financial ‘Fair Play’ after the renewal of Kylian Mbappé with the Parisian club, since They defend “positions” and believe that “it is not good for the football industry” that clubs “with unlimited resources” compete.

“We are not defending postures, we want to go all the way. We hope there is no surprise at TAS,” Mayo told the media after the presentation of the new LaLiga ball for the 2022-2023 season at the LaLiga TwentyNine’s restaurant in La Gran Madrid road.

Four days ago LaLiga announced in a statement that it would denounce Paris Saint-Germain for having renewed Kylian Mbappé “attacking the economic sustainability of European football” and considers it “scandalous” that a club like the Parisian can afford those figures.

“We denounced City five years ago, it is not good for the industry that clubs with unlimited resources compete. It does football a disservice. We put it at the level of the creation of the Super League, we must stop it now,” said Óscar Mayo.

The general director of LaLiga recalled that UEFA “already sanctioned PSG”, but “mysteriously the TAS forgave them”. “We will go through all the cases, there is an economic control to comply with. They have losses of 600 million, it is not understood,” he said.

In addition, Mayo responded to the statements made by the president of the Parisian club, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who referred to this possible complaint by LaLiga, assuring that “perhaps Tebas is concerned that Ligue 1 is stronger than LaLiga”. “We entered more than 1,100 million for national audiovisual rights and about 900 for international ones. This, 80 in the international market and 800 in the national one, so those comparisons do not go anywhere,” he clarified.

In this way, he highlighted the importance and weight of the Spanish competition. “The best have played here, we have had two of four teams in the Champions League semifinals. There will be LaLiga Ballon d’Or finalists. We have a Champions League finalist and PSG fell in the second round,” Mayo said before joking with the “runrún” of the signings each year, acknowledging that he “would have liked” Mbappé to come to LaLiga.

On the other hand, he valued the words of the president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, who this Tuesday regretted not having “any complicity on the part of LaLiga”. “LaLiga is not complacent nor does it help one club more than another. LaLiga acts the same for everyone, it’s about making it the same for everyone. We don’t help more or less, the conditions are the same for everyone”, stressed the director general of the employer.

Finally, Óscar Mayo confirmed that LaLiga claims almost 300 million euros from the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), according to El Mundo, for not being “well justified”. “We ask for clarification, they are very large amounts,” he settled.
