The Sevilla FC coach, Jorge Sampaoli, assured that against Atlético de Madrid, their rival on this LaLiga Santander matchday, they should focus on improving their game and leaving behind the anarchy that is appearing in their “despair and discomfort” team lately.
“The despair that is generated at the moment level of the team, the club or the stands, all that is transferred to the field and makes us vulnerable. If we do not respect plans and forms, we are anarchic and lose our capacity. We must get out of despair and discomfort,” he said at a press conference.
For Sampaoli, the team is in a situation that he is not used to. “We are facing many inconveniences and all this generates an anarchy of thought when you see that you cannot win. What I see from this team is that when it is together and organized it is competitive and, when it is not, it is a weak team,” he added.
Hence, against Atlético he wants to see his team more focused. “It’s a match in which we have to contribute a lot more to the game to bother a rival who has a consolidated project. But they’re trying to turn around their way of surprising their rivals and it’s giving them a lot of results,” he commented on the ‘mattress’.
“We know that we are playing against a good team and we have to take the game from our idea of the game to find superiorities. If we get into disputes about inaccuracies and suffocation, they are very good there and we will lose out,” acknowledged the Seville coach.
Asked about Marcos Acuña and the fact that he made a ball with the instructions paper in the match against Osasuna (2-3 home defeat), he stated that he did not give it “much significance”, although he did talk about it with the player.
“It was not my determination, that paper was written by a member of the coaching staff and they were instructions so that the team would not lose, trying to prevent the action like the one in which Abde scored the goal. I could get angry with Marcos, but I think it is fruit of despair,” he said.
