The Spanish rider Jorge Prado (KTM) shone this Sunday in the Spanish Grand Prix, a scoring event for the Motocross World Championship and which was held on the intu Xanadú route, in the Madrid town of Arroyomolinos, with a second and a third place in the two sleeves that finally left him in second position.
The Galician could not repeat his dominance of last year, when he was able to win both races, but before the 10,000 people who gathered in the stands of intu Xanadú, he once again demonstrated his quality to continue in the fight for the world title of the MXGP category.
The rider from Lugo, fourth in timed practice, led the first round for several laps, closely followed by the Frenchman Romain Febvre and the Slovenian Tim Gajser, second and third in the general classification.
Finally, after a tough and beautiful fight with Febvre, he managed to overtake the Spaniard on the ninth lap, but Prado managed to hold on to finish third ahead of World Championship leader, Belgian Jeffrey Herlings.
In the second race, the Galician started again first, this time chased by Herlings, who also won a prize for his insistence to overcome him on the ninth lap and claim victory. Prado, meanwhile, could not this time hold his second place and finished third after being passed by Tim Gajser.
Finally, with these results, the winner of the Spanish Grand Prix was Jeffrey Herlings, with Jorge Prado second and Tim Gajser, third, so the general classification of the World Cup does not undergo any notable change, with the Galician 65 points behind the leader.
“I have loved the race. I have never seen something like this in my life. So many people following me, yelling at me, waiting for fans, but not as much as what I saw here today. It was great to be on the podium again,” Prado confessed .
On the other hand, In MX2, the Spanish Rubén Fernández started in tenth position in the first round and although he was not very lucky at the start, he went back to finish seventh, while in the second he came to be fifth in the eighth lap and knew sit through. The Spaniard finished seventh overall and added 30 points for the championship.
