Wales scratches a draw in Croatia and Scotland thrashes like Spain

Steffen’s hat-trick in just half an hour puts Switzerland’s win against Belarus on track

MADRID, 25 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Wales team got a creditable draw (1-1) this Saturday against Croatia at the Stadion Poljud in Split thanks to a goal from Broadhead in the last minute of the clash, in their first game of the Euro 2024 Qualifying Phase, while that Scotland thrashed Cyprus (3-0) to tie for the lead in Group A with the Spanish team.

The team led by Zlatko Dalic was superior to a combative Wales that knew how to resist until the end. Thus, Kramaric put the locals ahead after connecting a shot from the edge of the area that beat Ward, after a poor defensive action by Rob Page’s men. Good first part of the Croats, thanks in part to the criteria and stripes imposed by a Luka Modric who managed the match at will.

Although after the break the superiority of the checkered team continued to be the usual trend of the clash, the resistance of a Welsh team focused on attack ended up finding the prize of the goal when the match came to an end. Broadhead picked up a ball in the small area from where he did not miss to equalize on 93′. A tie that places both teams second in Group D in which Turkey beat Armenia (1-2) thanks to goals from Kokcu and Akturkoglu to overcome Kabak’s initial own goal.

For its part, in the same group as Spain, Scotland thrashed Cyprus with an offensive display. McGinn’s goal in the first half and two goals from Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay late in the second were enough to close out a clash that ended with Ioannou being sent off by the Cypriot team.

In addition, Switzerland brought out the roller with a resounding 0-5 against Belarus. Steffen’s hat-trick in the first half hour and goals from Xhaka and Amdouni in the second half served Murat Yakin’s men to lead Group I in which Romania beat Andorra and Kosovo (0-2) and Israel tied (1-1) in Tel-Aviv.
