VAR will be used in European qualifying matches for the Women’s World Cup

MADRID, 3 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

UEFA has confirmed this Monday that the video assistant referee (VAR) will be used in the next European qualifying matches for the 2023 Women’s World Cup, so it will be implemented in all six matches from October 6 to 11.

In this way, the VAR will reach the ‘playoffs’ for the World Cup, after its use in the 31 matches of the 2022 Women’s Eurocup, the knockout rounds and the final of the Champions League last year, as well as the finals of the last three years.

Qualifying matches begin with Round 1 on Thursday 6 October, featuring six teams: Portugal, Belgium, Wales, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Scotland and Austria; while Iceland, the Republic of Ireland and Switzerland await the winners in round 2 next Tuesday, October 11.

Of all of them, only the top two ranked teams will advance to the finals in Australia and New Zealand. The remaining winner will compete in the February inter-confederation playoffs in New Zealand.
