Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo breaks world record for half marathon in Lisbon

Ugandan athlete Jacob Kiplimo broke the world record for half a marathon with a 57:31 mark this Sunday in Lisbon, improving by one second the previous record set by Kenyan Kiwott Kandie last year in Valencia.

The 21-year-old was proclaimed world champion in the half marathon last year and, in 2021, he hung the bronze medal in the 10,000 meters at the Tokyo Olympics.

Ethiopians Huseyidin Mohamed Esa and Gebre Beyata Dibaba completed the podium, both with a time of 59:39. For her part, the Ethiopian Tsehay Gemechu Beyan reigned in the women’s race (1:06:06) ahead of the Kenyan Daisy Cherotich (1:06:15) and Joyce Chepkemoi (1:06:19).
