The WNBA expands its regular league and creates a cupper tournament

The Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) announced on Thursday the expansion of its regular league, going from 34 to 36 games per team, as well as the creation of a cup tournament, baptized as the Commissioner's Cup and which will begin to be played this year 2020 .

From its website and social networks, the WNBA has confirmed that its 24th season will begin on May 15 and end on September 20. This increase in team matches will also cause an increase in televised retransmissions nationwide, thanks to the coverage of the ESPN and ABC networks.

From now on, each team will play 18 games at home and another 18 as a visitor. And the main novelty will be the designation of 10 of those 36 meetings as “copper parties”, as indicated by the WNBA in its press release.

Such designation will serve the best team in the Eastern Conference and the best in the Western Conference to face the title of the new Commissioner's Cup.
