The ‘plenary session at 5’ of the Zidane saga

Zinedine, Enzo, Luca, Theo and now Elyaz. The youngest of the four children of Zidane has been summoned by the sub-17 of France to complete the plenary session. Both the patriarch and his four sons (who have all trained in the Real Madrid quarry) have been internationals with France in different categories. Elyaz, who will turn 16 in December and plays for Madrid’s Juvenil C, will have the opportunity to make his debut in the mini-tournament of the first qualifying round for the European of the category. France will meet Moldova, Cyprus and Greece in Hellenic lands from October 26 to November 1. Elyaz, who was born on December 26, 2005, is the youngest of the 20 players called up.

Luca, the second of the four brothers, is the one with the longest international career to date. The now 23-year-old Rayo Vallecano goalkeeper has gone through five of the lower categories, from the U-20 to the U-16, to add 30 caps. He was the European U-17 champion in 2015 and that same year he also played the World Cup in the category.

He is followed, in age and internationality, by Theo, who is now under the command of Raúl at Castilla. At the age of 19 last March, he has been called up by the U-20 bleu in the two international breaks this season. He has also gone through the sub-16 and the sub-17, but the stoppage of the competitions of internal teams due to the pandemic has made him skip the passage through the sub-19. In total, he already has 12 caps. The eldest son, Enzo, 26, is the one who has had the least presence in the inferiors of France, with only two games with the U-19s.

Now Elyaz continues and completes the saga that his father started in the 90s, although none of the sons has yet come to play in the absolute as he did. A true legend of French football, leader of the team that won the World-Eurocup double and scored 108 caps (and 31 goals, including the two he scored in the 98 World Cup final) in the golden age of Blues.
