Alejandro Davidovich's victory over Federico Delbonis has not only guaranteed the Malaga native to secure a place in the Roland Garros quarterfinals but, in addition, it has earned him another very important award: his ticket to the Tokyo Olympics.
According to the Live Tennis portal, with his victory in the quarterfinals Davidovich virtually rises to 35th place in the ATP ranking with 1,723 points and surpasses Albert Ramos, who is currently ranked 37th with 1,595 after his first round defeat at Roland Garros.
In this way Davidovich meets the two requirements for Olympic qualification, since the criteria designated for it. The first one is that the tennis players who occupy the first 56 positions of the ATP and WTA rankings will be classified. of next June 14 (something that Davidovich will fulfill the next day 14 officially) plus other other players who will achieve the pass through continental tournaments.
After achieving the pass to the quarterfinals and surpassing Ramos in the ranking, Davidovich also meets the second criterion established for the Olympic classification, since there is a maximum limit of four places per country and right now Davidovich is the fourth Spanish tennis player by ranking after Rafa Nadal (virtual third), Roberto Bautista (virtual tenth waiting of what Schwartzman does) and Pablo Carreño (virtual twelfth). In this way, and at his 22nd birthday this Saturday, Davidovich, AS Promesa Award in 2017, wants to continue advancing round at Roland Garros. For now, no one can take away your ticket to the Tokyo Olympics.
More defined are the Spanish places for the Tokyo 2020 women's tournament. TThree Spanish tennis players, Garbiñe Muguruza, Paula Badosa and Sara Sorribes appear in the first 56 positions of the classification and they have almost sealed their ticket to Tokyo in the absence of the publication of the official ranking next Monday, June 14. The only question is whether or not Carla Suárez will be able to attend, who has a protected ranking in position 68 and that he fell in the first round at Roland Garros on his return to the slopes after having overcome Hodgkin's lymphoma.
