The Movistar Madrid Half Marathon has exceeded 24,000 participants for the first time in its history and has exhausted the numbers available for its next edition, which will be held on Sunday, April 6.
The organization has opened a waiting list on its website (www.movistarmadridmediomaraton.es) so that those who have run out of bibs have the option of getting one if there are cancellations. There are numbers available for the ProFuturo Race, which is held in parallel on the same day over a distance of 5 kilometers and for which there are already more than 1,000 registered participants.
In 2024, the 21,000 numbers available in advance will also be sold out. By 2025, the growth has been up to 3,000 participants, with a record figure of 30% women, and there will be participants of up to 60 different nationalities, which also represent 28% of the total number of registered participants; Great Britain and France contribute about 2,000 runners.
The 5-kilometer ProFuturo Race, which is also held in parallel on April 6, will most likely also break its participation record. This event has united sport and solidarity since its creation in 2016, and aims to promote the cause of ProFuturo, which brings educational innovation with technology to the most vulnerable schools in the world, an initiative promoted by Fundación Telefónica and the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation.
The Movistar Madrid Half Marathon is the fastest half marathon in the city, distinguished with the ‘Road Race Label’ seal from World Athletics, which integrates it into its official calendar of road events, and was named by the Madrid City Council as an event of general interest to the city. The race is organized by the Marathon Sports Group, Atresmedia and Sport Life Ibérica, with the main sponsorship of Movistar and with the institutional support of the Madrid City Council and the Community of Madrid; Joma Sport is the technical sponsor.
