The King and Queen of Spain remember Gento as a “reference player in world football”

The kings of Spain, Felipe VI and Letizia, have recalled Paco Gento, the only player in the world to have won six European Cups who died on Monday, as “a mythical figure and a benchmark in world football.”

“It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Paco Gento and we want to send our condolences and support to his wife Mari Luz, his children Francisco and Julio and his entire family, as well as conveying our closeness to the club that he has honorably chaired since 2016″, the king and queen of Spain underlined, in a telegram sent to the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez.

In their message they also recall that his “professional and unmatched track record made him worthy of the Grand Cross of the Order of Sports Merit”.
