“The idea of playing the Champions League in Portugal is incomprehensible”

UEFA will announce on June 17 how the European club competitions (Champions and Europa League) will conclude. It sounds louder every time that Istanbul will not host the Champions League final and Lisbon will host a possible 'Final Eight'.

However, not everyone in Portugal is excited about the organization of the highest European club competition. A group of six clubs from the Portuguese Third Division have charged against the Portuguese federation and see it irresponsible and “incomprehensible” that the idea of playing the remaining matches of the competition on Portuguese soil is shuffled.. “We will march in an organized way against those who sink Portuguese soccer and its administrative errors and the bad decisions that the Portuguese Soccer Federation (FPF) has taken”, explains in statements collected by O Jogo, the president of the SAD Algarve, Luís Torres, one of the teams against the intentions of the Federation and instigator of a concentration in front of the Ciudad del Fútbol, headquarters of the federation chaired by Fernando Soares.

“Two weeks ago, it was not possible to play six playoff games for promotion, but now you can play 20 of the Champions League. This idea of the Champions League in Portugal is incomprehensible”, attacked the president of the Algarve, who along with Fafe, Lourosa, Praiense, Benfica e Castelo Branco, Olhanense and Real they are the most combative clubs. Their discrepancies arise from the decision of the Portuguese Federation to suspend the playoff for promotion to the Second Portuguese Division due to the risk of the coronavirus pandemic. And they do not understand that now they see with good eyes the dispute of a hypothetical final to eight Champions in Portugal.
