The Hipódromo de La Zarzuela will celebrate its 80th anniversary with six races and commemorative events

The Hipódromo de La Zarzuela in Madrid will celebrate its 80th anniversary next Sunday with a program of six races and different commemorative events that will be attended by all the former HZ presidents, as well as different personalities.

As ambassador of the 80th anniversary, Iñigo Méndez de Vigo, owner and breeder, great fan of horse racing and former Minister of Education, Culture and Sports will do the honors, according to the Hippodrome in a statement.

Among the commemorative events, it will be possible to visit a special exhibition, dedicated to the sports history of horse racing and which will occupy one of the rooms of the Eduardo Torroja Museum, located on the ‘pelousse’ floor of the north stand.

In the Club Carudel room, the painter and sculptor Salvador Fernández-Oliva, will exhibit his pictorial and sculptural work, among which the bronze sculpture of the architectural work of the Torroja stands stands out, which will be the trophy for the winner of the Grand Prize.

In addition, the races of the day will have the entertainment of the Municipal Band of the Madrid City Council and in the ‘Paddock’ you will be able to see a mural with all the winning horses since the reopening of the Hippodrome, from ‘Diurno’ to ‘Asturias’, last winner to date.

During the day, different videos will be broadcast on screens that will reflect the inauguration of the racecourse in 1941, the environment and society throughout the different eras or the winners of the Anniversary Grand Prize since 2005. As for the competition, six will be held races on the grass track starting at 11:30 am.
