New episode in the LaLiga-RFEF match. LThe Provincial Court has dismissed the appeal presented by the institution chaired by Javier Tebas to carry out the dispute of a League match outside of Spain. The project, known as ‘Plan Miami’, tried to bring the Girona-Barcelona of several years ago to the United States as a strategy to strengthen the brand of the competition in that country and thus increase its future income from the sale of audiovisual rights in said territory. From LaLiga they do not lower their armss and assure AS that will continue to “fight for something that we consider essential for internationalization and competitiveness of our football. “In a subsequent statement, LaLiga announced that He values going to the Supreme Court to carry out said match.
In August 2018, Javier Tebas announced that he would bring a LaLiga match to the United States. One of the strategies that the employer’s association had with Relevent, an entertainment multinational with which it signed a joint venture for fifteen years, to expand internationally in America. The chosen match was Girona-Barcelona on the 21st day of the 2018-19 season, but the Federation’s opposition was total and the justice system agreed with Rubiales, stopping said project. The Federation argued, in the different views that this confrontation had in the courts, that the current format did not allow a game to be played outside of Spain. They criticized that said change affected equality, since Girona would not act as a local when playing on a neutral field and not all teams would play in the same stadiums. Even the RFEF came to label this project a “whim” and “artificial necessity”; while LaLiga accused them of “disloyal” when trying to knock down that project since the RFEF was in negotiations to take the Super Cup to a foreign country.
In that first judicial confrontation, the judge did not give LaLiga permission to play the game outside of Spain (Like neither the following season pretending to carry a Villarreal-Atlético). Real Madrid and Barcelona, which have also recently opposed LaLiga’s multi-million dollar deal with CVC, sent letters showing their opposition to the match in Miami. Now, the Provincial Court has written a new chapter in this story. LaLiga’s appeal has been dismissed. From the Federation they show their satisfaction that “justice supports the prohibition of the dispute of league matches outside of Spain.” LaLiga, for its part, also issued a note announcing that they are considering taking the case to the Supreme Court: “LaLiga will value appealing the judgment to the Supreme Court since the internationalization of Spanish football is a key issue for the future of the industry. Consequently, it will continue working to achieve the crucial objective of holding a match outside of Spain.”

“The latest ruling of the Madrid Provincial Court regarding the Miami game that the League intended to play between Girona and FC Barcelona has once again proved the RFEF right.
This is the second time that the courts have ruled on this matter and the League has once again dismissed the position, rejecting the appeal in full, after the first favorable ruling to the RFEF of March 6, 2020.
Justice supports the performance of the RFEF, which was correctly carried out in the exercise of its powers.
