MADRID, 2 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish women’s handball team fell to Romania this Saturday (25-23) on the third day of the Carpati Trophy, which is being played in Bistrita (Romania), a duel in which the hosts were more effective in the final minutes .

With a balance of one victory -against Austria (27-32)- and two defeats -against Serbia (30-28) and against Romania-, José Ignacio Prades’ men say goodbye with a third place in the Romanian competition, part of the straight end of their preparation for the European of Slovenia, Montenegro and North Macedonia.

At the Sala Polivalenta Unirea in Bistrita, both teams exhibited their defensive strength in the opening minutes, in which the goalkeepers were the main protagonists. The Galician central defender Alicia Fernández gave speed to the Spanish attack, although the lack of success in the launch, both in the static attack and in the counterattack, weighed down the ‘Guerreras’ at the end of the first period (10-8).

Spain managed to tie after the restart (10-10) thanks to an inspired Maddi Aalla, and although Yuliya Dumanska boosted the Romanian team, Prades’s managed to get ahead (14-15). However, in the heat of their public, the locals recovered the initiative and managed to be crowned champions of the tournament.
