The final of the Portuguese Cup will be played in Coimbra and there will be no Super Cup

The final of the Portuguese Cup will be played between Porto and Benfica on August 1 in the city of Coimbra, in the center of the country, while it was decided to suspend the realization of the Portuguese Super Cup.

This was announced this Wednesday in a statement the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), which pointed out that the final of the cupbearer championship, which was pending due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will be played in the Coimbra City Stadium no audience in the stands.

The test is normally held in the Jamor Stadium, in Oeiras (outside Lisbon), but this installation does not have the necessary conditions to receive the final this year, with all the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19.

The last time a Cup final was played outside Jamor was in the 1982/83 season, in the Das Antas Stadium -Old Porto fief, with the same rivals as this season: the “eagles” beat the “dragons” 1-0.

The FPF also announced that the celebration of the Portuguese Super Cup is suspended after reaching an agreement with the Benfica and the Port, the two teams that would dispute it, since they are the only ones with options to the League title and cup finalists.

They considered that is the best decision for the “interests of Portuguese football”, in order to alleviate the club schedule, since in September there will be matches from European competitions.
