The Ballon d’Or catapults Alexia Putellas: from 700,000 to 1 million followers in networks

November 29, 2021 has been recorded as a historic day for Spanish women’s football and, more specifically, for Alexia Putellas. The Barça midfielder won her first Ballon d’Or, second in Spanish football after more than 60 years (Luis Suárez was the only player who had achieved it in Spain, in 1960). This award has given a breath of optimism in Spanish women’s football, where a boost is already beginning to be noticed after this award from Alexia.

And is that the player has gone from having 400,000 followers on Instagram to adding a million, being the first Spanish footballer to reach this figure on this social network. The thrust of the Ballon d’Or has also splashed on her fellow nominees, such as Jenni Hermoso, Paños, Paredes or Martens, who saw their followers increased these days, although to a much lesser extent than in the case of Alexia.

In fact, if you compare the followers of the Barça midfielder with those of other teammates, you will find a big difference: Jenni Hermoso, second in the Ballon d’Or, has about 267,000 on Instagram and Paredes, about 87,000. Yes there is an exception in the case of Lieke Martens, who even surpasses him with 1.3 million followers on Instagram. The Dutchwoman came to Barça as a world star after being awarded The Best in 2017.

The one from Mollet del Vallès has become the image of the moment in world football, appearing in the media of a large number of countries. And it is not for less, being Ballon d’Or, Best Player of the Year by UEFA and the great favorite to win The Best. All this has led him to increase his virtual community, in which he also adds more than 172,000 followers on Twitter and around 204,000 on Facebook.
