The Alavés-Atlético, in danger

Snow is the main protagonist of the weekend in Álava. Many events have been questioned because Vitoria and much of the province woke up totally white on Saturday. After the snow (there is a forecast of more rainfall) the ice usually arrives so nothing should be ruled out, even a postponement of Alavés-Atlético (16:15).

The club has been removing the snow cover from the football field for several hours but new storms are expected throughout the weekend. The conditions of the Ibaia sports city are even worse and the fields were impassable. The Alavés press department decided to suspend Pablo Machín's telematic press conference and asked journalists to send their questions but without an appearance via Zoom.

It would not be the first time a game has been postponed in Mendizorroza, much less. It is a city located at more than 500 meters of altitude in a cold area surrounded by mountains. Many times the problem is not the white mantle but the ice that remains under it and makes the field impractical. In addition, and that is the most dangerous thing right now, there is a forecast of new snowfall during the weekend. The temperatures are not very low and, as the weather is relatively mild, the rains turn into snowfalls.

Atlético, meanwhile, will continue with its planned plan. The expedition flies this afternoon to Vitoria and there it will be night. At the club, no one is officially aware that the game is in danger, although they are aware of the circumstances. Alavés has let them know that they are working hard to leave the grass in the best conditions for the encounter. However, almost everything will depend on how you spend the night in the city …
