Spain already warms up for Davis at Madrid Arena

The Spanish National Team that will compete in the Davis Finals (Thursday to December 5) This Sunday he had his first contact with the Madrid Arena court, new headquarters this year to replace the Caja Mágica, where the last salad bowl fell in 2019.

Sergi Bruguera’s boys exercised in two shifts on the new venue, with a capacity for 9,000 people, which has been set up inside this structure, in which the 1,000 Masters that now houses the Caja Mágica has already been played. The first to try it were Roberto Bautista and Carlos Alcaraz. Later they were relieved by Pablo Carreño and Feliciano López. The session was repeated in the afternoon. Also present were Juan Carlos Ferrero, Pepe Vendrell and Samuel López, coaches of Alcaraz, Bautista and Carreño respectively, to lend a hand to the captain, Sergi Bruguera.

He stressed that the most important thing in this final stretch of preparation is for the team to adapt “to the height” of Madrid and the influence it has on the behavior of the ball. “These first days are to get into the competition and get the sensations of the track. Being covered you have to see if it is faster or slower, but above all it is important to adapt to the height, which is what costs the most,” he stressed .

“I have summoned the best regardless of age. Those who I think are more prepared to compete. And both Carlos (Alcaraz) and all the others are prepared to play Davis,” justified the Catalan his choices. The quintet is completed by the doubles player Marcel Granollers, who joined the concentration this same Sunday from the ATP Finals in Turin, in which he reached the semifinals.
