Serena Williams wins her first singles match since Roland Garros 2021 against Nuria Párrizas

MADRID, 9 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Nuria Párrizas fell on Monday in her first round match at the Toronto tournament, in the WTA 1,000 category and played on a hard court, against the American Serena Williams (6-3, 6-4), who achieved her first Singles win since Roland Garros 2021.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion, who suffered an early first-round defeat at Wimbledon on her return to court after overcoming injury, needed just under two hours to beat the Granada-born at the National Bank Open.

In her second duel of the year, the North American used two ‘breaks’ -by one of her rival- to win the first set. Already in the second round, Párrizas wasted up to six break opportunities before Serena sealed, in the ninth game, the break that guaranteed her victory in the match.
