Serena Williams Beats Maria Sharapova in the US Open

The US Open opening encounter was a huge draw and featured Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams fighting it out after a long time in the opening session of the US Open. And as the luck would have it, Serena Williams walked off with a win over Sharapova beating her 6-1, 6-1.

The match ended in just under an hour, and Sharapova conceded to Williams in straight sets. With that win, Williams moved 20-2 in a famous first draw in any US Open. It is one of the most spectacular head to head clashes we have ever encountered.

Ever since they first locked horns in 2004, both of them have always been the most successful female players. Williams claimed that “Obviously, I’m going against a player that has won five Grand Slams and been in the final of many more and that’s not easy”.

It was evident that Williams was completely relaxed all through the match. In contrast, Sharapova was seen to be trying to take control of the match in whatever possible manner. Instead of focusing on her strength, Williams was evidently focusing on playing with depth and forced the Russian player to run.
