San Mamés receives the stars of LaLiga Genuine Santander in an emotional opening ceremony

MADRID, 24 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

San Mamés hosted this Friday the third stop of LaLiga Genuine Santander, already installed in the city of Bilbao, with Athletic Club hosting this pioneering league in the world, launched by LaLiga, through its Foundation, in the season 2017/18.

The captains and captains of the 22 teams participating in this venue have met in a historic setting in the world of football: the San Mamés Stadium. Nerea Ortiz, vice president of the Athletic Club; Clemente Villaverde, president of the LaLiga FOUNDATION; Vicente del Bosque, ambassador of LaLiga Genuine Santander; and José Ángel Iribar, Athletic Club legend, have been in charge of welcoming them.

Nerea Ortiz wanted to show her enthusiasm and that of Athletic Club for being the host club this weekend. “It is an honor for Athletic Club to be able to host LaLiga Genuine Santander once again, a project to which we have been committed for years and which we greatly value. We welcome you and, above all, we hope you enjoy and show the importance of the values,” he said.

For his part, Clemente Villaverde expressed his gratitude to all those who make this competition possible and assured that “LaLiga Genuine Santander rescues the purest essence of football”. “Genuine football makes us feel that we are one more. It teaches us to live, to fight for a dream, to respect, to win, and also to lose. It is the place where words like ‘improvement’ take on true meaning”, commented.

After the ceremony, and as part of the Finetwork Liga F match between Athletic Club and Sevilla FC played in this same stadium, the representatives of the LaLiga Genuine Santander teams welcomed the players onto the field with a corridor, in an act recognition and appreciation between both competitions.

The event will start this Saturday and end on Sunday at the Ciudad Deportiva de Lezama. Wrapped in the warmth of the crowd of fans, family and friends, the more than 350 players will face off in a total of 33 matches that will bring the second phase of the 2022/23 season to a close.
