MADRID, 27 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Russian Davis Cup team beat Ecuador (3-0) this Saturday in Group A of the 2021 Finals, which it shares with a Spain against which it will play this Sunday the pass to the quarterfinals at the Madrid Arena.

One of the favorites to prevent the defense of the Spanish title was warmed by the hand of world number two, a Daniil Medvedev who put the final 2-0 against Emilio Gómez (6-0, 6-2). The US Open champion was lethal and uncompromising against a South American team that fought him more in the first point.

Andrey Rublev opened the tie with a hard-fought win (6-3, 4-6, 6-1) against Roberto Quiroz. Ecuador, which faced Spain, conceded the same 3-0 after the doubles that Aslan Karatsev added together with a Rublev who is going strong in Davis as two years ago. Gonzalo Escobar and Diego Hidalgo gave the same battle as Marcel Granollers and Pablo Carreño, with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Russia and Spain will play this Sunday the third and last day, not before 4:00 p.m., for a victory that is worth the pass to the crosses although each game and set can add to be in the quarterfinals also as the best second in the group. Sergi Bruguera could already put Albert Ramos or Pedro Martínez in the team, the last to arrive.

The Catalan replaced Roberto Bautista and the Valencian came for the last minute loss of Carlos Alcaraz, positive for coronavirus. The 3-0 against Ecuador was added by Feliciano López, Carreño and again the Asturian with Granollers in the doubles. ‘Feli’ ended up touched on Thursday, but has had a day off, and Carreño knows that he will have to win an individual again.
