Rahm wins again at the Genesis Invitational and recovers the number one in the world

Third victory in a month and a half for the Basque

MADRID, 20 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish golfer Jon Rahm won this Sunday the Genesis Invitational of the PGA circuit, held this week at the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, a third victory this season, in just a month and a half, to recover the number one in the world that he held for the last time in March 2022.

Rahm confirmed that he is the fittest player with a victory that, finally, catapulted him to a number one who resisted him more because of technicalities than because of the results. Barrika’s man made a vintage comeback at the beginning of January at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii and at the end he won The American Express, with his worst result this season a seventh at Farmers Insurance.

This week on the mythical Californian course, the Spaniard started leading the last day and withstood the attempts of the Americans Max Homa and Patrick Cantlay. Rahm started with a serious first lap but at the start of the second nine he dropped two bogeys. The Basque traced the flight with a great ‘putt’ at 14 and a great shot at 16 for two ‘birdies’.

Thus, with a -17 (two and three shots better than his pursuers), the player from Barrika, at 28 years old, sealed his fifth win out of the last nine he has played and added his tenth in the PGA, beating Severiano Ballesteros and one of the 11 that Sergio García has, a record for a Spanish golfer on the North American circuit.
