Rafa Nadal withdraws from the Laver Cup for “personal reasons”

MADRID, 24 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Rafa Nadal has withdrawn from the Laver Cup, in which on Friday he played the doubles match with Roger Federer, the last of the Swiss’s career, for “personal reasons”, the organization of the tournament confirmed this Saturday .

“Rafael Nadal withdrew for personal reasons. He will be replaced by Cameron Norrie,” the event reported on its social networks. The Balearic, according to some sources, will fly to Mallorca to be with his wife, with whom he is expecting his first child.

Britain’s Cameron Norrie will take Nadal’s place on the European team in the tournament that runs until Sunday. Nadal probably would not have traveled to London if Federer had not asked him to form doubles with him in his farewell match, in which they finally fell to Americans Jack Sock and Francis Tiafoe (4-6, 7-6(2) and 9/11).

The winner of 20 Grand Slam titles retired at the age of 41 after three knee operations. His place in the Laver Cup team will be taken by Italian Matteo Berrettini.
