The Spaniard of the Movistar Team says goodbye to professional cycling in the Italian ‘monument’

The Slovenian runner Tadej Pogacar, winner of the 2021 edition, the Danish Jonas Vingegaard, the French Julian Alaphilippe, the Italian Vincenzo Nibali and the Spanish Alejandro Valverde lead the participation of ‘monument’ Il Lombardia, the classic over 253 km that is disputed this Saturday between Bergamo and Como.

Alejandro Valverde, 42, will compete in his last test as a professional cyclist after 20 seasons in which he was world champion in 2018, won the 2009 Vuelta a España and, among other triumphs, added 17 stage victories among the three ‘big ‘, Giro, Vuelta and Tour de France.

So will the Italian Nibali, one of the seven cyclists who have won the three ‘big’ ones: the 2010 Vuelta, the 2013 and 2016 Giro, and the 2014 Tour.

In addition to them, other illustrious cyclists such as ‘movistar’ Enric Mas, Bauke Mollema, Jai Hindley, Daniel Felipe Martínez, Domenico Pozzovivo, Romain Bardet and Damiano Caruso will also be on the starting line, according to the organizers in a statement.
