Pedro Martínez advances in Sydney and Davidovich and Carballés say goodbye

Spanish tennis player Pedro Martínez has made his debut with victory in the Sydney (Australia) tournament, ATP 250 category and preparatory for the Australian Open, after beating local Alexei Popyrin (6-4, 6-4) on Tuesday, while that Alejandro Davidovich, in the same contest, and Roberto Carballés, in Adelaida, have been eliminated.

Martinez, world number 61, asserted his break in the first game to take the opening set. In the second, he rallied from a 0-2 against with two ‘breaks’ to end the contest in just over an hour and a half of play. Now, the one from Alzira will face British Daniel Evans, third favorite of the tournament.

For his part, Davidovich did not pass his debut against Serbian Dusan Lajovic (7-6 (5), 6-4). The Malaga player, 51st in the ATP ranking, went ahead 2-0, but ended up losing in the tiebreaker before also losing the second heat after the Balkan won the last three games.

Meanwhile, in Adelaide, an ATP 250 category tournament, Carballés also succumbed to the French Benjamin Bonzi (6-3, 6-3), before whom he was unable to sign a ‘break’ and who defeated him with a break in the first partial and two in the second.
