NFL MVP race 2023: Ranking Purdy, Prescott, Allen, candidates

How to rank Purdy, Prescott, Allen, among other candidates for NFL MVP in 2023

The NFL’s Week 15 schedule changed the MVP race in a big way. ESPN BET said that besides Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys, Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers was also a +160 favorite for winning the MVP award before both teams’ games.

The gap between Purdy and Prescott grew after the Niners beat the Arizona Cardinals by a score of 242 to 14. Prescott failed to score a goal for the second time this year in a loss to the Buffalo Bills.

There are still a few matches between people near the top of the leaderboard, so even more can happen. We looked at their rankings to see how the game stands right now.

On Christmas Day, Purdy will face off against Lamar Jackson, quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens. In Week 16, Prescott and the Cowboys will go to Miami to play Tua Tagovailoa, the team’s quarterback and receivers Tyreek Hill.

For the MVP race, we asked Matt Bowen, Mike Clay, Courtney Cronin, Jeremy Fowler, Dan Graziano, Matt Miller, Dan Orlovsky, Jordan Reid, Aaron Schatz, Mike Tannenbaum, and Seth Walder to cast their votes.

Here are the top five teams with three weeks left in the regular season, along with some teams you should keep an eye on. And finally, Walder chose someone who wasn’t well known in the race.

As of Sunday evening, Purdy from San Francisco had passed Prescott from Dallas. He is now the clear favorite to take the award at -200. He is now second on the board with +500.

Before the 45–29 win into the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, Purdy was in second place with +200. Early in November, he was at +2900. Prescott’s chances changed the most; they went from +900 to fourth place.

On Sunday, Week 15, the Niners played Arizona. The quarterback completed 16 out of 25 passes (64%), gained 242 yards, threw four touchdowns, and had a passer rating of 135.3.

Prescott, on the contrary hand, had a bad game against the Buffalo Bills, 31–10. His chances to win MVP dropped from +160 to +900.

It’s time to look at the 2023 NFL MVP race again. The field is getting smaller with only three games left in the season, and our poll changed a lot this week.

Week 15 saw the Buffalo Bills beat the Dallas Cowboys so badly that they knocked Dak Prescott from first place.

Brock Purdy, who came in second place in both of our last two events, did not take his place. Instead, Lamar Jackson, who finished further down the board, did.

Just in case you forgot how this works, here it is: Each of our voters was asked to list their top five picks for MVP. Then, we put the candidates in order of how many vote points they got.

A first-place vote was considered five points, a second-place ticket was worth four, a third-place vote was worth a third, a fourth-place vote was considered two, and a fifth-place vote was worth one. This was done to reflect the new ranked-choice voting method.

The 15-week NFL season in 2023 is almost over, and there is a clear winner in the MVP race. It was thought that Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen would win the award at the start of the season.

In spite of this, they are not even in the top five after 15 weeks. The odds-on favorite to win the MVP award is the Oakland 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.

At odds of -190, Brock Purdy has a 65.5% chance of getting the MVP award. Jackson and Prescott, on the other hand, have an 18.2% shot of winning the award.

Along with the Baltimore Ravens, the San Francisco 49ers have the best record in the NFL (11–3). They are led by head coach Mike Purdy. That’s 268 out of 384 passes for 3,795 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 7 picks this season.
